Leading the Way to Redefine Sustainable Materials in Indonesia

Analysis from Mordor Intelligence shows that the estimated size of the Indonesia Flexible Packaging Market is USD 4.37 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach USD 5.51 billion by 2029. The demand for flexible packaging in Indonesia is influenced by various sectors, but the food and beverage industry substantially contribute to its overall growth.

The growing preference for single-serve, on-the-go convenience foods has driven an increase in flexible packaging production. However, this trend has also come with awareness among consumers regarding the environmental impact of single-use plastics and unsustainable business practices. Consumers are increasingly advocating for products that have higher ecological standards, empowering a shift towards more sustainable packaging options.

This month, Solinatra had the privilege to participate in a workshop and event in Indonesia that not only highlighted the importance of innovation in packaging but also underscored the pivotal role of biodegradable materials in shaping a sustainable future.

Dynapack Innovation Workshop

The Dynapack Innovation Workshop aimed to empower attendees with a comprehensive understanding of innovative packaging concepts. As a guest speaker, Solinatra took this opportunity to emphasise the urgency of transitioning towards sustainable alternatives in the packaging industry.

We also had the chance to have a live demonstration of our biodegradable coffee capsules, which showcasing the simplicity of adopting 100% natural and plant-based materials in everyday applications. Solinatra coffee capsules will break down in the same time frame as banana skin, leaving behind zero microplastics or harmful contamination. At this event, visitors were able to experience firsthand that we can have flavourful coffee without compromising on environmental impact.

Food, Hotel, and Tourism Bali

This month we also proudly showcased our innovative biodegradable materials at the Food, Hotel and Tourism expo in Bali, setting a new standard for sustainability in the food and hospitality industry. It was a joy to see visitors were captivated by the versatility and effectiveness of Solinatra's biodegradable products, which not only offered practical solutions for businesses but also demonstrated a commitment to preserving our planet for future generations.

As the first province in Indonesia to implement a single-use plastic ban, various industries, including hospitality, now must adopt sustainable alternatives. The Bali Hotels Association is also actively contributing to tackling plastic pollution in Bali through waste barrier installation projects, waste and energy reduction, and sustainable sourcing. Hotels in Bali are also transitioning away from plastic towards eco-friendly options such as reusable containers and sustainable amenities.

Participating in Food, Hotel, and Tourism Bali was a good opportunity for Solinatra to introduce our newest product prototype, a biodegradable toothbrush for hotel amenities, and other endless application possibilities for the hospitality industry.

Switching to biodegradable products made of Solinatra opens the opportunity for companies to embrace circular economy principles by focusing on product design that promotes a closed-loop system to reduce waste.
