Solinatra began when one of our co-founders started searching for a genuinely sustainable material for coffee capsules. Existing alternatives could address parts of the challenge, but none brought together everything that mattered: natural origins, reliable performance, a responsible end of life, and compatibility with established manufacturing processes.

Recognising the need for a fundamentally different approach, our second co-founder joined the journey. Together, they set out to develop a material that would not simply appear more sustainable but could break down fully after use without leaving persistent microplastics behind.

What followed was years of research, experimentation, and material development at our research and development facility in Norwich, UK. By combining agricultural byproducts, natural ingredients, and advanced material engineering, the team created Solinatra: a new generation of Natural Engineered Materials designed to meet the needs of both industry and nature.

The research soon revealed potential far beyond the original coffee capsule application. Since Solinatra was founded in 2018, our technology, team, and capabilities have continued to develop, enabling the materials to be used across horticulture, packaging, food service, personal care, and a growing range of everyday products.

Today, we work with businesses around the world to create products “Made of Solinatra”: 100% natural materials designed to perform reliably during use and reintegrate into natural systems at the end of life through composting and biodegradation, without leaving persistent microplastics behind.
