Solinatra Wins Sustainability Award

Simon, Robert and Georgie from Solinatra are joined on stage by Graham Plant to receive the FSB Sustainability Award

Solinatra has been awarded the East of England Environmental/Sustainability prize at the Federation of Small Business (FSB) Awards, at a ceremony that took place at Newmarket Racecourse.

Awarding businesses from across East Anglia, Solinatra impressed judges with our innovative material that provides a truly sustainable alternative to single use plastics. Utilising plant waste from farmers in the region to create our biomaterial, the judging panel and award sponsors Norfolk County Council applauded the use of local materials and an inventive approach to a global issue.

Speaking at the event, Chief Commercial Officer Simon Girdlestone said: “It’s an honour to win the Sustainability Award, and to be recognised by the FSB. We have developed Solinatra to be a truly sustainable alternative to single use plastics, it is 100% natural and fully biodegradable. Plant based coffee capsules are the first of many innovations we are developing, so it’s wonderful to have this support early on in our journey.”

We’re creating a portfolio of plant based materials at our new Research and Development Centre in Norfolk, utilising waste from local abundant crops such as wheat, oats and rapeseed as well as upcycling other natural resources including used coffee grinds.

Winning the prize means that we will now compete with winners from across the UK at the national finals in May, taking place in Glasgow. Follow us on social media to see how we get on!
