Serving Sustainability at Norwich Market

Visit Norwich market and discover more than just delicious street food on the menu! The historic market is putting sustainability at its forefront as part of an ambition to become the first Zero Waste Market in Britain.

Famous for its street food stalls selling fresh flavours from local artisans alongside cuisines from around the world, the market is now serving truly sustainable cutlery made of Solinatra. Solving the problem of plastic waste and the strange taste of wooden options, cutlery made of Solinatra makes no compromise on sustainability or usability. Strong, smooth and pleasant to use, perfect for any dish.

Solinatra is 100% natural, plant based, fully biodegradable and compostable. The ideal solution for single use items and products that are difficult to recycle, Solinatra is a revolutionary material designed to solve the plastic pollution problem. Cutlery made of Solinatra is fully biodegradable and compostable, in home and industrial settings, and will fully break down without leaving behind any microplastics or contaminants. Made using agricultural crop waste, Solinatra utilises existing resources to create a material that is circular, renewable and better for the planet.

More than 4 billion items of single use cutlery are used each year in England, nearly all plastic – and less than 10% are recycled. Solinatra is the solution that’s enjoyable for customers to use, with no strange texture or taste of wooden cutlery, and contains zero plastic or fossil fuel ingredients.

We’re proud to be working with Norwich BID and Norwich City Council, who are working with the market traders association to put Norwich on the map as a green, sustainable city. Serving cutlery made of Solinatra is just one of the initiatives to transform the busy market into a zero waste hub.

At the heart of the city for more than 900 years, Norwich market is one of the largest and oldest in the UK. Comprising almost 200 stalls with a quarter serving hot and cold food, from bao buns to brownies, baklava to butties there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Solinatra was developed by a Dutch-British team of Rosiro Group. Continuing the historic connection between East Anglia and the Netherlands, Solinatra has an R&D centre in Norfolk and HQ in the Hague. Injection moulding grades of material are available for food- and non-food contact approval, with extrusion and thermoforming grades set to follow in the coming months. Cutlery for Norwich market is being manufactured by Plastech Moulding in Norfolk, using Solinatra Universal Food blend.
